The Virginia Beach Animal Care & Adoption Center is the rescue arm of the city's Animal Control department. Lost and unwanted pets are turned in to the VBAC&AC by owners, finders and/or Animal Control officers. It is the mission of the Friends of Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center to ensure that animals held at the shelter receive the best and kindest care possible. We work hard to promote adoptions of shelter animals so that fewer pets are euthanized.
Shelter pets are often wonderful animals who have ended up at the shelter through no fault of their own - often owners become ill, go into nursing homes, move or are deployed, or can no longer afford to care for their pets. Shelter animals are often already housetrained, leash trained and are just waiting for a new owner to love. Please, please make shelter pets your first priority when you think of adding another loving animal to your home!
