WANTED! Cat loving volunteers

to assist with Petsmart cat adoption station!

PetSmart Cat Adoption Center 2011

Virginia Beach AC&AC is privileged to have 10 cages at the Petsmart at 3413 Virginia Beach Blvd (South Plaza Store).  Through the hard work of volunteers and the generosity of Petsmart, our cats are given additional exposure to the public and where they frequently find new homes!

We need additional volunteers to help care for the cats and the cages at this adoption center. You can volunteer for a shift a few hours a week - or even once a month!

The volunteer shifts are (loosely) during the hours of 7-10 AM and 4-8 PM.  The responsibilities are to clean the cages and litter boxes, and to check the kitties' food and Petsmart Cat volunteer 2011water. The volunteer also maintains the appearance of the adoption center so that it looks nice when adopters visit.  Having a volunteer at the cat area also gives the cats time outside the cages for cuddles and play.   (You do not have to be there the entire time, Petsmart just asks that those are the hours that the cages are cleaned for the comfort of the cats and for public viewing.  A complete clean can takes about an hour to an hour.)

These are light duties.   All items needed are provided. Petsmart makes a contribution to Friends of Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center for every cat adopted!  That money is used by Friends for the care they provide to the animals at the shelter.

Man holding cat 2011There will be training sessions scheduled for anyone interested in volunteering at the Petsmart.  The main shifts that need covering right now are as follows:

Thursday AM  and Friday AM   Also, anyone who can "float" as needed for Saturday AM and Thursday PM as we still do not have a “regular” volunteer for those times, so if you can share or fill in anytime a volunteer cannot cover their regular shift, it would be a huge help.

To volunteer you must be 18 or accompanied by an adult.  Any help is needed even if it is one shift a month- if multiple volunteers do this then the month is covered.

Please contact Angela at darangsmith@verizon.net or 757.681.1822 OR Pam at 771-7334..  (Please leave a message on the cell phones if no answer.)   Please consider serving the cats in this unique opportunity.  The cats that are privileged to get to Petsmart become very special to the volunteers at Petsmart, and we give them every opportunity to be adopted- no matter how long it takes.

Please consider giving just a little of your time, no matter if it is only a shift a month, it is a true help.    Please offer some of your time to continue this wonderful opportunity..
